Railway station "Yanov"

Pripyat, by those standards, was considered a very developed city. In addition to scarce goods, the city had a very developed infrastructure: a bus station, a yacht club, a dispensary, a hospital complex, motor transport, a river port, a cinema, a shopping center, a palace of culture, an amusement park, a stadium for 5000 spectators, a closed swimming pool, etc.

It should also be added that literally a kilometer south of Pripyat was the Yanov railway station.

The station was created long before the construction of Pripyat and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

In 1925-1929, the construction of the Chernihiv-Ovruch railway line began, and the Yanov railway was located at the base of this track. The total length of the railway track between Chernihiv and Ovruch was 177,685 meters.

One can even say that the Yanov station gave impetus to the construction of the city of Pripyat and the nuclear power plant, because it was convenient to carry out passenger and cargo work along the railway.

Before the accident in 1986, long-distance trains Moscow-Khmelnitsky and Khmelnitsky-Moscow ran daily through the Yanov station.

The village of Yanov itself, in which several hundred people lived before the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and in whose honor the railway station was named, was buried due to high levels of radiation in 1987, because the territory fell under the highest radioactive trace - "Western", in the basis of which is the well-known section of the "Red Forest".

The radiation situation at the Yanov station today exceeds the norm literally several times, even for several years this location was officially included in the tourist route of visiting. The former railway station of the station was converted for the needs of the transport complex of the state enterprise "Chernobylservice", which operates today.

After the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Chernihiv-Yanov section was resumed. This was served by the construction of a new city of nuclear scientists - Slavutych. Now every day an electric train runs, which transports Chernobyl personnel along the route Slavutich - Semihody (ChNPP) - Slavutich. Also, during the construction of the NSC (New Safe Confinement), some railroad tracks were renewed and used to support construction work.

We can say that the Yanov station became popular after the famous computer game S.T.A.L.K.E.R .: Call of Pripyat, where members of the Duty and Freedom groups were located.
